ZIP is the commonly used extension of program(s) referred to as PKZIP. Pkzip makes use of a data compression algorithim minimize the size of the files. There are to programs:
- PKZIP
- Used to create an archive of several files all compressed.
- PKUNZIP
- Used to unpackage and uncompress the archive and re-create original files. You can get a copy of pkunzip at:
- Using PKUNZIP:
- Copy the program
pkunzip.exe to either the local directory or somewhere within the path. If archive.zip is the name of the archive in the currect directory, give the command:
pkunzip archive.zip
After execution, all files contained within the archive will be available. A copy of pkunzip.exe can be obtained here (choose the directory).
- WINZIP
- To those students with there own machines, you may want to obtain a copy of a windows program called WINZIP. WINZIP is a Graphical User Interface (GUI - pronounced gooey) for PKUNZIP and other archiving / data compression programs.
